Qatari Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Yousef Bilal and sweet treat 311 Director Gentaro Yui announced a new project to transform an abandoned Japanese school into the a modern global learning centre for children in Miyagi Prefecture. The announcement was made at the Qatari Embassy in Tokyo, Japan.

The ground-breaking of the INTILAQ Innovators Hub in Sendai City was attended by 30 dignitaries and guests, including Mr. Samer Raymond Frangieh from Qatar Friendship Fund. Mr Kiyoshi Kurokawa, Chair and Co-founder of the project’s partner organisation IMPACT Japan, and Sendai City officials, also joined the ceremony.

H.E. Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, opened Qatar Sports Park Shirakawa at an official ceremony held to celebrate the new project. He was joined by the Mayor Kazuo Suzuki of Shirakawa City Mayor and Goodwill Ambassador, Tetsuya Bessho.

His Excellency Dr. Khalid Bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, officially unveiled the state-of-the-art Qatar Science Campus at Tohoku University. Several workshops were held in the build-up to the launch, attracting more than 1,400 eager young scientists.

Qatar Friendship Fund sponsored a football class at Qatar Sports Park Shirakawa ahead of its official opening. The class was run by Japanese football stars Tetsuji Hashiratani and Masahiro Fukuda. Around 100 junior school students joined the celebrity players at the event.

Qatar Friendship Fund was active during "Qatar Week: Ferjaan in Tokyo" which was held in Roppongi Hills from September 27th to October 1st 2012. The information booth attracted thousands of visitors who were able to find out more about the work being carried out to help those in areas affected by the 2011 Great East Earthquake and Massive Tsunami.

Under the leadership of H.E the Minister of State For Foreign Affairs, Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah, QFF announced in April 2011 its commitment towards the implementation of its first mega-project, a USD 24.3 million-fishery project in Onagawa. Construction went ahead on building a state of the art tsunami proof plant.
