The Advocacy and Leadership-Building for a Disaster-Resilient World initiative underpins long-term recovery efforts by providing women in Japan with greater opportunities to engage in and influence disaster preparation and recovery processes nationally and internationally. The project will be managed by the Japan Women's Network for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Japan Association for Women’s Education, and will draw on the experiences of the thousands of women affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in working to ensure women are represented in policy-making bodies – thereby reducing the risk of injury, loss of precious lives, and damage to infrastructure caused by disasters.
