  • Prior to the Tsunami, approximately four out of five households in Karakuwa-cho were engaged in work related to the fishing industry. As such, following the devastation that was caused to the area, QFF launched a new US$1.5 million fishing project in partnership with Nippon International Cooperation for Community Development (NICCO), called Al Furdha. The new facility was launched in May 2014, and will benefit over 1,000 households and help in rebuilding fishing industries by utilizing the latest fish storage technologies that will enable fishermen to keep their catch alive until it arrives at market. In addition to supporting local fishermen the project, in Karakuwa-cho, Kesennuma, will also support the long-term regeneration of the town and surrounding areas.
