Onagawa was left devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake and its once famous fishing industry almost completely destroyed. QFF responded by providing JPY¥2 billion (US$24.3 million) for a 7,760 square meter multifunctional fish processing facility. Operational since 2012, the Maskar projects will provide sorting, refrigeration, and storage facilities. The state-of-the-art plants will create thousands of jobs and has been awarded the 2013 Good Design Award by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP).
